Third Lisbon Architecture Triennale

Close, Closer. Is the title of the third edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale curated by Beatrice Galilee in association with Liam YoungMariana PestanaJosé Esparza Chong Cuy and Dani AdmissClose, Closer will explore new forms and examples of contemporary spatial practice, initiating a discussion on the future role of contemporary architecture.

In the current scenario of contracting market economies and scarce resources, the curators propose to approach architecture as a platform for generating solutions and strategies, fostering debate and participation in designing a shared space and future.

Departing from this scenario of access and proximity, Close, Closer presents four curatorial projects:  “Future Perfect” curated by Liam Young at the Electricity Museum“Real and Other Fictions” curated by Mariana Pestana at the Carvalhos Palace – Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa, a public program titled “New Publics” curated by José Esparza in Triennale Headquarters and public squares in central Lisbon and“The Institute Effect” at the MUDE, Design and Fashion Museum – Francisco Capelo Collection.

The first Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Urban Voids, took place in 2007. It arrived on the Portuguese scene and made a name for itself in leading international circles thanks to its energy, scale and capacity for mobilising and generating a global debate on architecture and the city.

Following its successful first edition, the Triennale’s biggest challenge is to assert its identity by emphasizing the high standard of its vision and programme as an international event.
