Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter is considered to be the most important artist of our times. In the sixty years of his career, he has produced an oeuvre distinguished by the variety of its themes and styles.

The show at the Fondation Beyeler is the largest ever devoted to the artist in Switzerland, and brings together – for the first time – works created as series, cycles and rooms from every period of Richter’s career. It includes figurative portraits, still lifes and landscapes, and abstract paintings in which the artist has drawn upon a changing repertoire of shapes and colors.

With 100 paintings, 60 overpainted photographs, and 2 glass objects, the exhibition conveys a comprehensive overview of the spectrum of Richter’s painting, in all its dimensions and techniques.
