Faig Ahmed: Carpet Equalizer

Faig Ahmed will be one of the artists to exhibit a new body of work in a solo exhibition at Cuadro Gallery this March.

Faig Ahmed, a nominee for the 3rd Jameel Prize sponsored by the Victoria and Albert Museum, is Cuadro Gallery’s current artist in residence. During his three-month residency, Ahmed will continue his artistic practices of reinterpreting traditional Azerbaijani rugs. In an attempt to disassemble their conventional structure, the artist superimposes digital patterns into traditional compositions, combining them to create contemporary sculptural forms.

Graduated from the Sculpture faculty at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Art in Baku in 2004, he has been working with various media, including painting, video and installation. The Victoria and Albert Museum shortlisted Ahmed for the 2013 Jameel Prize. His work was also featured in the Azerbaijani Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007 and 2013.
